Earwax Microsuction & Hearing Check

Blocked ears, reduced hearing or discomfort can often be caused by a build-up of earwax. Our ear health service provides a professional examination of your ears and hearing, with microsuction available where required.

What’s Included?

Your appointment includes an ear examination and hearing check to assess your ear and hearing health. If we identify anything requiring further investigation, we can advise you on the appropriate next steps.

Microsuction Earwax Removal

If earwax is causing a blockage, we can remove it using microsuction – a quick and effective technique that uses gentle suction under magnification. Unlike traditional ear irrigation, no water is used.

Before Your Appointment

Please use 2–4 olive oil ear drops in BOTH ears every day for one week before your appointment, tilting your head for around 2 minutes after applying to allow the drops to absorb. Olive oil drops are available from the pharmacy and may be supplied through NHS Pharmacy First Scotland if you are eligible.

Microsuction is only carried out where required following examination of your ears.
